From the Ground Fashion Show

Looking for something a little different to do this Saturday night?

Photo:  GHP Photography
Why not venture out to Greentopia Festival for the From the Ground Fashion Show for a night of eco-minded entertainment, fun, and fashion?  It is sure to be a fashion show like no other.  I mean, when is the last time you saw a runway made out of crushed cars?  This celebration of urban innovation is sure to have a hipster, block party vibe, with its skateboarders and eco-friendly paperless program (you can receive it via text.)  The show will highlight designers using sustainable and innovative approaches to design, showcase creators of up-cycled and vintage garments, and feature extreme materials taken to the next level with one of kind pieces from burlap to paper.

If you believe in cultivating new ideas, in growth, in art, in bringing people and communities together to celebrate fashion, forward-thinking, sustainability, the creative class, and Rochester, then this is the event for you.

Here is the nitty gritty:

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2013
Pre-Party Festivities for
Sponsors and VIP guests: $25
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
General Admission: $10
Doors Open at 7:00 pm
Fashion Show Begins:

Want to know why I'm going?  Well yeah, I write The Flower City Fashionista.  I like clothes...and shoes...and a great statement necklace.  Sure, I believe in sustainability and shopping local, but honestly it's deeper than that.

I am passionate about the underlying message of this event; by the idea that we can create a shift in our urban climate by supporting each other.  That its the artists, the dreamers, the hopers and believers who take leaps of faith and make things happen.  That positive outcomes are the result of blood, sweat, tears, and good people coming together.

Sometimes I feel like my head could explode thinking about all this little city of ours has to offer.  There is so much talent and creative spirit here.  I whole-heartedly believe that through making the right connections: by bringing together the creatives, the big thinkers, the Lennon-esque dreamers that anything is possible - that the sky alone will be the limit and no one will be able to hold us down. Changing our situations, our economy, our society starts with each one of us and with the idea and the desire to make it happen.  We can be the change.

That is why I support events like this fashion show.  That is why I'll be there.

Hope to see you there too!

What Do You Wear to a Rooftop Pool Party?

Now, I know what to wear to a pool party in Vegas, or the Jersey shore:  the least amount of clothing, the maximum amount of oiled-up, tanned skin.  Show off your tats, pile on some bling, don your aviators, poof your poof, and get ready to untz-untz with the best of them.

Authentic Jersey Shore Rooftop Pool Party
That's my gorgeous bestie on the right.
Possible Snookie sighting far left.
Something tells me a PGA celebration on the rooftop of the Radisson in Rochester is going to look a little different..

If you are lucky enough to be on the guest list for one of the hottest parties in town, I am here to help you navigate that age-old question:  What do I wear?

Ladies:  It's going to be sunny and breezy, so shades are a must and a low-maintence 'do is recommended.  Think beachy waves or up off of your neck and out of your face.  As for wardrobe choices, you can't go wrong with a sundress.  What better way to soak in the summer evening air than in a comfortable, flowing dress?  No time to change after work?  No problem, plenty of people will be heading from the office to the rooftop, so business casual is just fine.  There will also be your fair share of party go-ers coming right off the course, so pro-shop chic will do as well.

Gents:  I have to say, you guys have it so much easier than we do.  Throw on khaki sorts, boat shoes, and a golf shirt and you can pretty much go anywhere.  When is the last time you heard a man whisper to another man:  "Can you believe he is wearing THAT?"   I'll tell you when:  NEVER.  When it comes to guys, the only thing they really need to remember is "no shirt, no shoes, no service." Everything else is fair game.

What everyone should leave at home:  swimwear, glitter, and fist-pumping dance moves.

What I'll be wearing:
(Photo from my trip to Mexico last October)
Guess Maxi Dress - I'll be scrapping the heels and evening bag, knotting the bottom and wearing flats.
I'll add some Beach waves and fun jewelry and I'll be good to go.
What will you be wearing Thursday night?

Not on the guest list?  Better hurry (space is limited) and you must be on the list for guaranteed admission and comp parking in the Radisson garage.  RSVP to rooftopparty@rochesteralist.com.

Hope to see you there!

Cocktails and shopping.

Not to mention Cure, Devil May Care, and Kouture.

And sales, and giveaways, and girl time.

Ok so it's all of my favorite things...

It doesn't get much better than this, Rochester:

Now for the really important question:  Who is going with me?

Cocktails and Cuisine on the Patio - Rochester Blogger Network Launch

One week ago today, over forty local bloggers and writers gathered at Napa Wood Fired Pizzeria in the South Wedge to celebrate the launch of the Rochester Blogger Network.  Guests mingled, sipped signature cocktails, and were treated to an exclusive tasting menu created especially for the event.

The energy on the patio was electrifying - so much local talent in one space.  I loved getting to know all of the bloggers and hear about the different genres and topics that Rochester writers are exploring.  From local happenings to fashion and parenting, to social commentary and tech, there was such a variety of interests represented.  What a great night!

Rochester Blogger Network Co-Founders:  Amy Riposo and Jennifer Sanzo

To be able to bring together so many unique voices with so many important things to say was not only inspiring, but humbling as well.  The future is looking awfully bright:  there are so many great things in the works for the Rochester Blogger Network.  This is only the beginning!

As I sit here looking at these photos and thinking back to last week, all I can tell you is that I feel blessed beyond measure, giddy with anticipation for the future, and grateful to be a part of such an amazing community of writers!

I love this city!

Thanks to everyone who came out and for all of your support!
