Fashionista Frolic

Need another excuse to get out next week for some fun, fashion, and philanthropy?

The Fashionista Frolic is a fundraiser, fashion and accessory exchange, and a fabulous ladies’ night out!

Come mingle with great women, enjoy complimentary appetizers and libations, and exchange your gently-used “looked-better-in-the-store” clothing, accessories, shoes, and handbags for someone else’s fabulous fashions!

Fashionista Frolic
Thursday November 7th 6:30-9:00pm
First Unitarian Universalist Church of Rochester
220 South Winton Road
Rochester, NY 14610

Tickets are limited and sales end November 4. Don't wait or you will miss out on this opportunity to unlock your inner fashionista and make a profound difference in the lives of local city school children.
How it works:

1. Buy your ticket and invite your friends.  Your $75 donation will help to provide much needed tutoring services to children in the Rochester School 15 and School 22 Partnership Program.

2. Drop off 5 former treasurers from your closet to First Unitarian Church on any of these dates/times:
  • Friday, November 1 from 9:00am-7:00pm
  • Saturday, November 2 from Noon - 4:00pm
  • Sunday, November 3 from Noon - 4:00pm
  • Monday, November 4 from 9:00am-7:00pm
  • Clothing MUST be dropped off by November 4.  No exceptions.
3. Come and frolic on November 7!

Call your girlfriends, grab your tickets, and get out for some fashion-filled girl time.

Cocktails and Couture

Let's be honest here, they had me at the title:  Cocktails & Couture.

Shoes and booze?  Where do I sign up?

When I found about exclusive after hours shopping, food, entertainment, and a fashion show, I knew this event could not be missed, especially since 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Wilmot Cancer Center.

The event is next Sunday, November 10 from 7-9pm at Eastview Mall.  A limited number of tickets are still available and can be purchased at Eastview Customer Service.

More than a dozen stores are participating in the after hours shopping event including: Free People, Michael Kors, Vera Bradley, Solstice, GUESS, Euphoria, L’Occitane, Brighton, Papyrus, Brooks Brothers, The Art of Shaving, Mann’s Jewelers, Athleta and, of course, Von Maur.  I also hear that the swag bags are going to be pretty fantastic...

I'll be there with bells on (and a glass of champs in hand.)  Will you?

PS- Since this is an after hours event, please enter at the mall's main entrance by Pottery Barn.  No sense traipsing around the mall in your killer heels looking for an open door... ;)

Luxe Spa

I've never been one to turn down some pampering, so when Rochester A-List asked me to go to Luxe Spa to check out their amenities and try their signature facial, I immediately said "yes."
Luxe Salon, Spa and Laser Center is HUGE!  When I checked in, I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming, and large the space was.  They offer a full service salon, private conference room for parties/large groups/special events, and a peaceful inner sanctuary where they conduct all of their spa treatments.

I couldn't wait to slip on one of their comfy robes and let the pampering begin.
The decor is tranquil and nurturing; the staff pleasant and accommodating.

While waiting for my service, I listened to the trickling sound of this fountain and sipped my orange-infused water.

I had my pick of cozy and comfortable spaces.
Christie was my esthetician and an absolute doll.  She made sure I had everything I needed and was very knowledgeable.  During my consultation, she was very thorough and changed out the products she had intended to use based on my sensitive skin and told me she wouldn't used the steamer on me, because that would only make my skin more sensitive.  Who knew?!  I've had plenty of facials, but I have to say, I have never experienced anyone more attentive to my needs than Christie.  She comes HIGHLY recommended, especially if you have sensitive skin.

After our consultation I got to try the "SkinScope."  This was so cool, and the first time I had had my skin analyzed in this manner.  This technology actually reveals problems beneath the surface of the skin.  It allows you to see damage that your skin has suffered from sun, aging, dehydration, excess oils and cellular build up.  This machine allows your esthetician to see your skin's moisture level, oil level, pore size, wrinkle depth, elasticity, sensitivity, and transparency from sun damage so that they can tailor your products and service to fully meet the needs of your skin.  Talk about personalized service!

Behold my imperfections as seen by the SkinScope:
Between the advanced technology of the Skin Scope and Christie's expertise, my facial was truly exceptional.  It began with cleansing, double exfoliation, and extractions, included a massage of my neck, shoulders and decollete, and finished with a custom blended mask and moisturizer.  When it was over, my skin felt fabulous, I had zero irritation, and I left there feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and energized.
I highly recommend Christie for your next service.  With beautiful amenities and gracious and knowledgable staff, don't you think it's time for a little Luxe in your life?

And while you're there, check out Posh Boutique for unique gifts and trendy accessories and be on the look out for more locally-made products.  They are looking to bring in more work of local designers and artisans.  Nothing like being able to #shoplocal and #spalocal all under one roof!
Go ahead and book your service today, and be sure to tell them The Fashionista sent you. ;)

#ShopLocal: SJ's Has It Going On

Last week, Rochester A-List sent me to SJ's Village Boutique in Pittsford to do a little shopping and find a fall trend to feature in their upcoming Fashion Spotlight.

Well, let's just say they had so many great things in the store that I couldn't just pick about one - so here are eight great fall trends all available at SJs:

1.  Vegan Leather Moto Jacket - It's my must-have pick of the season.

2.  Animal Sweaters - Adds a bit of whimsy to any wardrobe.

3.  Cross Body Bag - Your solution for easy, hands-free style.

4.  Cobalt - It is THE color this fall.

5.  Cozy Cardis - This basic is a fashionista wardrobe staple.

6.  Lace Redone - Think of it as a way to add texture; still feminine, but with a twist.

 7.  The Drapey Tee - It's comfy and cool; this aint your mama's t-shirt.

8.  The Clutch - Pop it in your carry-all for day and break it out for cocktails in the evening.

Which piece is your favorite?  I can't stop thinking about that long sleeve tie-dye tee - I might need to go back and get that... yeah... I should...

When there is such a great selection right in your own backyard, why bother going to the mall?  Shop local.  Look fabulous.  And hit up SJ's - they have got it going on!

It's Also Anti-Fashion Week, Rochester

Mainstream Fashion Week not your thing?

Have no fear.

There is so much creativity in this ol' city of ours that we not only have Fashion Week of Rochester, but Anti-Fashion Week of Rochester.  Same days, same times.  Different venues, different artists.  Surely something for everyone.

Here's the agenda for the Anti-crowd:

Tickets for Cut & Sew Collective Saturday Night
I tried to get through this without putting my two cents in, but that would be too out of character for me to keep my mouth shut, so here goes nothing...

Can I let you in on my secret dream?  One day, I want to be able to say:  "Hey!  It's Fashion Week in Rochester!!!  These great events are going on to benefit the Center for Youth... Subculture Magazine is hosting X, Y and Z featuring some kick ass local designers here...  Joe Schmoe, Fashion Designer is debuting his collection at Fill in the Blank Gallery...etc."  There will be no sides to choose.  No line in the sand.  Just people supporting local fashion, designers, and the bubbling creative culture of our city.  Who's with me here?

Whatever events you choose do attend this year, just remember that at the end of the day its about getting out supporting Rochester.   Shop local, eat local, drink local - and be a force for good.  Save the drama for your mama.  Cuz this mama has had about all she can take!

And in the words of Forrest Gump:  "That's all I have to say about that."
